LexiShift Privacy Policy

LexiShift is a beta vocabulary-practice tool. It combines a Chrome extension, a local desktop app, and a local native-messaging helper so testers can practice vocabulary while browsing the web.

This policy describes the current beta behavior. LexiShift does not require a LexiShift account, does not sell user data, and does not use user data for advertising.

Data LexiShift Handles

LexiShift may handle these categories of user data:

• Website content: visible page text is read locally so LexiShift can apply vocabulary replacements and show practice feedback on pages you browse.
• Browsing and practice context: by default, limited replacement-exposure records may store the full page URL and the original and replacement words. Feedback records may store the same information. When encounter history is enabled, LexiShift may also store the latest short sentence excerpt associated with a practiced word. These records remain in local extension storage unless you intentionally share them for support.
• Extension and app settings: language/profile choices, rulesets, display settings, practice state, feedback history, and local beta diagnostics may be saved in Chrome extension storage or local app storage.
• User-provided support information: if you contact support, the message, screenshots, logs, or files you choose to send may be used to troubleshoot your report.

LexiShift does not intentionally collect personal identifiers, health information, financial information, authentication credentials, precise location, keystroke logs, mouse-position logs, or personal communications for a separate purpose.

Because the extension can run on pages you choose to browse, page text may include sensitive content. LexiShift’s purpose is to process that visible text locally for vocabulary practice, not to profile you or inspect unrelated personal information.

How LexiShift Uses Data

LexiShift uses data only to provide and improve the beta vocabulary-practice experience:

• applying vocabulary replacements on web pages;
• loading local vocabulary, ruleset, language-pair, and profile data;
• saving your settings and local practice state;
• showing feedback, encounter, and SRS practice history;
• diagnosing beta setup issues when you choose to view diagnostics or contact support.

LexiShift’s use and transfer of information received from Chrome extension APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Local Storage And Native Messaging

The Chrome extension uses chrome.storage to save settings, rules, selected language/profile options, vocabulary practice state, feedback history, and local diagnostics.

The Chrome extension uses Chrome native messaging to communicate with the locally installed LexiShift desktop helper. The helper provides local vocabulary, ruleset, and language-processing data that cannot be packaged entirely inside the extension.

For local semantic matching, the extension may send relevant page-text context, the source word, page language, and document URL to the locally installed helper through native messaging. This processing remains on your device and is not sent to LexiShift servers.

Current beta data is local-first. LexiShift does not currently provide account sync, cloud backup, server-side user profiles, or hosted personal dashboards.

Sharing

LexiShift does not sell user data.

LexiShift does not transfer user data to third parties except:

• when you intentionally send information to support;
• when hosting, email, browser, operating-system, or infrastructure providers process data as needed to deliver the website, downloads, email routing, or the Chrome Web Store listing;
• when identified third-party language or dictionary resource providers process ordinary network request metadata because you check for or download an optional resource;
• when required by law.

LexiShift does not use or transfer user data for advertising, creditworthiness, or lending purposes.

Remote Code

The LexiShift Chrome extension does not execute remotely hosted JavaScript or Wasm. Extension code is packaged with the extension. Links to LexiShift website pages, downloads, or support resources are not remote code execution.

Website And Downloads

The LexiShift website may provide beta downloads, release notes, documentation, and support links. Website and download infrastructure may process ordinary technical information, such as request time, requested URL, IP address, browser metadata, and security logs, as part of hosting and abuse prevention.

When LexiShift checks for or downloads optional language, frequency, semantic, or dictionary resources, it may connect to the identified third-party provider of that resource. The provider may receive ordinary network information such as your IP address, request time, requested resource URL, and app or browser metadata. LexiShift does not send the text of pages you browse to those resource providers.

Do not include private logs, screenshots, files, or page text in a support message unless you intend to share that information for troubleshooting.

Future Changes

If LexiShift adds accounts, sync, cloud backup, analytics, hosted user data, or other server-side user features, this policy will be updated before those features are offered to beta users.
